Welcome! My name is Sofia Blanco. I am a photographer and videographer based out of New York City. I grew up in Venezuela and Boston and graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Film Studies. I produce, direct, shoot, and edit my own videos, photograph events, and have worked as an Assistant Director in film and TV since 2019, for works such as Palme D’Or winner Anora, FX’s The Bear, Reservation Dogs, HBO’s Betty, and Amazon’sThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Whether as documentary or fictional in style, photography and video are my favorite mediums to convey stories because they have the potential to encapsulate the human form and spirit and the far reaches of the world in which they are expressed. Photography is powerful because it is in essence the supernatural ability to isolate and extract the likeness of a moment from time. It has the capacity to transfer us across space and expose us to realities otherwise outside our reach. This medium is my exploration into the subtle ways life speaks and expresses itself all across the world in the hopes of finding and exposing deeper truths beneath the surface.
Besides film and photography, I love snowboarding, rollerblading, running, writing, and studying physics. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or work inquiries. I'm always eager to work on exciting projects with interesting people.
